I visited the Illini State Pullers at the fairgrounds at Morris, IL. When I pulled in, it looked like we were at a Grand Nationals event. Well over 100 entries, 2 tracks on an asphalt speedway. The clouds, scenery and just being out in God’s country was just a beautiful place to have a pull. The Illini State Pullers have a long, long history and they’ve got every kind of class from naturally aspirated tractors to super stock tractors, the Hot Farms, Farm Stocks, various styles of 4WD and 2WD trucks in their Open category. Something for everyone at this event.
Got to meet a legend of mine Ron Brummel, the driver of the original Orange Krush. A photo of this truck hung on my wall when I was 11 years old, til my dad kicked me out. I bought a photo of this truck at Mike Whitt’s (Yeah, the same guy that’s running the NFMS pull now) KTPA pull at his farm in 1981. This truck was a multi-time USHRA event winner and national champion. He now pulls the truck in the Super Stock 4WD category. Glad to have finally gotten to meet such a legend!
Also, check out photos from ISP’s very unique 5,000lb and 7,000lb naturally aspirated. Not sure of the cubic inch or if there is a limit but the guys were running big block 6cyl on alcohol, fuel injected 700HP. In the 7,000lb class, diesels can run with a turbo limit and it makes for a real unique class. It was like a great party atmosphere, and definitely if you want to see an awesome event, be sure to check it out next year.
